When we stopped by the camp to pick up our food supplies this week, I saw Ian so I went to say hi. I noticed he was talking to another volunteer but I didn't think much of it. Once greetings were exchanged, Ian introduced me to the female he was chatting with.

"Hey Zeynep. Have you met Dana?" he asks.
"No, I haven't. Hi, I'm Zeynep," I say, nodding my head.
"Hi, I'm Dana, Ian's girlfriend," she says.
"She's from America," he just had to add.

My heart sank. What a disappointment. So, after I forced some small talk out, I made up an excuse as to why I had to jump out of the *lovely* conversation we were having. I'm not going to get worked up over this. It's just frustrating.

It was my birthday a few days ago. My parents gave me a book by Zahra al-Zahra, "The Peacock Laments at Dawn." Definitely one of my most favourite books of all time. I've already finished reading it and am reading it again. And then my siblings gave me some jewelry that Nia had made. It was a very nice day. Helped me forget how sad this whole situation makes me.
