distractions

The weather was really bad yesterday. It kept raining and raining, so I didn't go outside at all. They even closed the town's market early so Ezra came home. We spent the evening playing cards and eating beef jerky. Even Uncle Zack and Azalea joined us for the grim evening.

There have been some thefts from homes in our area recently, so we've been extra careful to make sure all doors and windows are locked and that someone's at home at all times. Hopefully nothing will happen, but better safe than sorry.

respect

Mr. Fitzgerald asked me to watch his cafe for the afternoon, so of course once the coast was clear, I snooped back into the shoebox with the strange letters I found earlier. I inspected them for quite awhile, trying to decipher all these lines of code words. The letters started about 5 years back and continued until about a year ago, which is around the time that Mr. Fitzgerald left Zaharia.

All the letters were for Mr. Fitzgerald, but came from several different people, none of the names I recognized. So I typed them into Google and found out that they were/are leading figures in both the PFLZ and the ZPF. Ok, I'm thinking, I'm solving part of this mystery! Then I noticed that there was a bullet form list of code words with numbers, so I googled them as well to learn that they are types of weapons.

Whoa... I've stumbled upon something huge here! My guess is that Mr. Fitzgerald was involved in giving weapons to these Zaharian groups. It would be quite easy, wouldn't it, being that he worked in the shipping yard for most of his life. And this probably explains why he fled Zaharia all together. So... that would mean that this whole internet cafe is just a set-up/safe house for him. I wonder how involved he really was before he left.

At any rate, I put the letters back. I won't touch them again, nor will I discuss what I saw, but I just had to feed my curiosity. Figuring this out (or making assumptions of what I think happened) has made me respect Mr. Fitzgerald even more. For someone of his age, he's still managed to help the struggle of Zaharia against the Brn and that's very impressive.
